The EDL division consists of 2 divisions. One division of 5 year olds and one of 6 year olds. The teams will be co-ed. Practices and games are held on Saturday mornings only. Our program is not called Tee Ball. Even though we will introduce the little ones on how to bat off a tee, during the mini game they will have the ball soft-tossed to them. We have found that children who are strictly taught how to bat off the tee and later play in the 7/8 division, have a hard time understanding the concept of the ball coming at them rather than the ball sitting on a tee and them hitting it from there. The first 30 minutes will be instructional rotating stations teaching players the baseball/softball concept. The second half of the morning will be a mini game so the players can implement their new skills.
EDL (Early Developmental League) co-ed
Due to this program being co-ed, we will use the Boys Age Chart.
7-8 Boys
The 7/8 division consists of 7 and 8 year old boys. Lowell Little League will continue to be working more toward having these Little Leaguers ready for the 9-10 minor division. This means that for a few weeks at the start of the season the coach will be pitching and a few specific rules will be in place. After this instructional period, the kids will begin pitching up to a full count, then the coach will take over and either the player gets a hit or is out. All the rules will apply 3-outs, 5 run limit, stealing when ball crosses the plate up until 3rd base and learning the different situations that occur during a game. We are hopeful that this new division will be a great blend of our past while getting the Little Leaguers ready for the future.
7-8 teams will start kid pitch on the week of May 6th. Coach will come in at 4 balls and finish the remainder of the strike count, kids will strike out. Each inning is 3 outs or 5 runs witch ever comes first. They will bat in a continuous batting order rotating positions every inning.
Stealing is permitted 1 base per batter. No stealing home.
Team score will not be kept by coaches as to wins and losses at this age.
Time limit will no new inning will start after 1.5 hours
Pitching distance
Baseball 40ft
9 – 10 Minor Boys
Pitching Distance is 46 feet. Base paths are 60 feet.
For the first week of the season, there will be a 5-run limit per inning. Once 5 runs or 3 outs are
recorded, the half inning is over.
Mercy rules are in effect for all games, including the first week of the season. The rule is 15 runs after 3
innings or 10 after 4 or more.
All games during the week will start at 6:00. No inning will be allowed to start after 7:45. The umpire will
make the final decision on if another inning will be started based on the time. All games on the
weekends will also not start after 1 hours and 45 minutes. All games will be 6 innings unless the time
limit is enforced.
Stealing is allowed for all bases at all times.
Pitching rules will be followed based on the Little League International rules. Coaches are required to
keep track of all pitches thrown. If at any time another coach or a board member from the league asks
to see the pitch count for a child, the coach is required to provide this information. Pitch count sheets
will be provided by the league. If at anytime a coach is not abiding by the pitch count and a player is
pitching more than they are allowed, that game will be forfeited. For current pitches allowed per player,

It is very important to follow the
pitch count rules for the safety of the kids. If a player is playing on a non-little league team, we ask that
you talk to the parent about the pitch count and how many pitches they are comfortable with their child
pitching. If it is not a little league game the kid is pitching in, then a coach does not have to take those
pitches into account when figuring out the total pitches thrown in a day. But again, we ask that you try
and protect the pitchers as much as possible and keep their arm healthy.
Catching Position
:
Any player who has played the position of catcher in four (4) or more innings in a
game is not eligible to pitch on that calendar day. Also, a player who played the position of catcher for
three (3) innings or less, moves to the pitcher position, and delivers 21 pitches or more in the same day,
may not return to the catcher position on that calendar day.
All bats must have the USA sticker on them or be listed on the approved bat list. For a list of the bats
